Douglas R. Tengdin, CFA

Mr. Tengdin is Chief Investment Officer of Charter Trust Company.  He joined the firm in 2000 and is based in our Hanover NH office.

Founded in 1984, Charter Trust Company is a wealth management firm headquartered in Concord NH.  Working confidentially with individuals, families and institutions to increase wealth through asset allocation, investment management, and charitable giving; and preserve, protect, and transfer wealth through estate planning and business succession strategies, education and philanthropy.  The company manages over a billion dollars in client assets and acts as fiduciaries for clients in 43 states and 3 countries.

Mr. Tengdin graduated from Dartmouth College, Magna Cum Laude. He received his Master of Arts from Trinity Divinity School, Magna Cum Laude and received his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1992.

As Chief Investment Officer, Mr. Tengdin oversees a team investment professionals that serve the firms clientele and is one of four senior managers that manage the firm’s day-to-day operations.  Mr. Tengdin has been managing investment portfolios for over 25 years, working for Bank of Boston, State Street Global Advisors, Citibank – Tunisia, and Banknorth Group. Throughout his career, Mr. Tengdin has emphasized helping clients manage their financial risks in difficult environments where they can profit from investing in diverse assets in diverse settings.

Mr. Tengdin has had a long-standing commitment to the investment profession. He was the founding President of the Vermont CFA Institute, and is an active member of the national CFA Institute. He has also volunteered in other ways at the CFA Institute headquarters in Charlottesville, Va.

He has a daily market commentary, the Global Market Update, which airs every weekday morning on several local radio stations. The Global Market Update is also published as a blog and a podcast. Mr. Tengdin has been a guest lecturer at the University of Vermont, Champlain College, and the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He is also a 2011 recipient of the NH Five Star Wealth Manager award.
